New appointments for Professor Katherine Smart

December 2018

Professor Katherine Smart has been appointed as the new Chair of the Worshipful Company of Brewers’ Livery Committee and has also been elected to the Court of the Brewers’ Company.  The Company is one of the oldest of the City guilds or livery companies with the objective of providing support to educational establishments and research in the field of Brewing. Founded in the late 13th century, the Brewers Company received a Royal Charter in 1438 from Henry VI.  Katherine is the first woman to be elected to the Court in the history of the Brewers’ Company and she will be formerly inducted at Brewers’ Hall in London on 13 December 2018.

Chimes English Extra Dry VermouthFollowing on from the release of Copperfield London Dry Gin in June 2018, Dr. Chris Smart and Professor Katherine Smart are now launching their second product hot off the still of their Surrey Copper Distillery. Chimes English Extra Dry Vermouth is an English vermouth hand-crafted from Surrey Sauvignon blanc blended with a distilled spirit infusion made using twelve botanicals.

Katherine Smart appointed to academic position at The University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge and The Surrey Copper Distillery Limited are delighted to be able to announce the appointment of Katherine Smart to the role of University Lecturer in Brewing and Distilling Sciences in the School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge effective 1 September 2018. From a modern, purpose-built family distillery in leafy Surrey, Dr Christopher Smart and his wife Professor Katherine Smart are launching a new gin, The Copperfield London Dry Gin, based on a recipe penned by Ambrose Cooper in his Complete Distiller first published in 1757.
